Prop 47 Leads to Sharp Shoplifting Increase in CA In November 2014, California residents voted to pass Proposition 47, also known as the Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act. This measure’s main effects were to convert many non-violent offenses, such as drug and property offenses, from felonies to down to misdemeanors. These offenses include shoplifting (of less than $950), writing bad checks, and drug possession. The measure aimed to reduce the state’s prison population and save the state about $150 million in related expenses. The money saved as a result of the measure would be spent on school truancy and

Statistics from NRF 2015 With the conclusion of NRF, the team at ISS would like to share some of the main focus points that were brought up. In an article written by Kathy Grannis Allen of nrf.com, she discusses the results of a new study that was released from NRF PROTECT. The study surveyed 100 senior loss prevention executives from various sectors of retail, spanning 45 countries, in March and April 2015. According to the study, “retailers say inventory shrink averaged 1.38 percent of retail sales, or $44 billion, in 2014”.
